BOSCH 11264EVS 1-5/8″ SDS-MAX Combination Hammer Review

BOSCH 11264EVS 1-5/8 SDS-Max Combination Hammer

The superiority of SDS-Max rotary hammers over SDS-Plus is undeniable. However, the prospect of lugging around a 2′′ rotary hammer all day isn’t enticing. We put the Bosch 11264EVS SDS-Max Combination Hammer to work breaking out tile and drilling to see what kind of performance you can anticipate on the lighter side of SDS-Max. This corded power tool gets the job done.

Performance

With its 13-amp motor, the Bosch 11264EVS produces 6.5 ft-lbs of impact energy. Without context, those two statistics may appear to be a little unimpressive, but we’ll look deeper.

It’s one of the lighter SDS-Max rotary hammers, at 15.2 pounds. When you add in Bosch’s vibration control, you’ve got a hammer that’s comfortable to use all day. The only question is whether it possesses the necessary capacity and power to complete the task at hand.

While we attempt to be more objective in our tests, all it takes is a few minutes with the Bosch 11264EVS to join in our enthusiasm.

On another tile job, it was clear that the reduced footprint and lighter weight made maneuvering in tight spaces much easier. Furthermore, the tool’s vibration control is excellent, and our testing guy reports that he didn’t have any hand numbness during extended use.

It’s also no slouch when it comes to drilling. You can drill holes up to 1-5/8 inch in diameter (4-1/8 inch with a core bit). It drills like butter through concrete.

Maintenance Details

Most rotary hammers don’t require much more than a little lubrication every now and then. But there are a few things that every rotary hammer requires in addition to that. Keep an eye on these intervals to schedule maintenance at a Bosch service facility to keep your Bosch 11264EVS SDS-Max Combination Hammer functioning at its best:

  • The carbon brushes have 8 hours left on them, according to the service reminder light.
  • After each brush change, lubricate the gears.
  • Brushes should be checked every 2 to 6 months, depending on how much they are used.
  • Bearings should be replaced after 300–400 hours of use (every other brush change).

Turbo Power Mode

Drilling with the Bosch 11264EVS is so simple that it’s hard to believe it’s holding anything back. When you switch it to hammering/chipping mode, it adds 20% extra power to the equation.

Vibration Reduction

The vibration control features of this hammer are superbly executed by Bosch. Their electro-pneumatic impact system is a part of that equation. This lowers vibration while boosting impact force by combining the available electricity with a pneumatic mechanism.

Trigger Locking

Fatigue isn’t an issue because the variable speed trigger is lengthy enough to use with three fingers. Pull it back until it snaps into place, putting you in the lock on position. To release it, simply press the bottom trigger underneath it.

Conclusion

The Bosch 11264EVS SDS-Max Combination Hammer has outstanding performance and low pricing in its class, so there’s not much to complain about. It’s a wonderful choice when you have a lot of light to medium drilling or chipping ahead of you, as it’s part of the SDS-Max rotary hammer group’s smaller end. Of course, it’s not a replacement for a demo hammer, but it helped us remove a lot of tile in a lot less time than we planned in our testings.
